12 members of the YEA are chosen to represent Essex in the UKYP (6 as members and 6 as deputies).
One person from each of the 12 districts is chosen for a two year term of office. This will happen at the first Sitting.
As a member of the UKYP you can influence policies for young people at a national level.
The UKYP has one Annual Sitting in July, where members from all over the country meet together. 3 or 4 times a year, members and deputy members from around the East of England meet together to work on regional and national matters.
Why not have a look at the UKYP website and see some of the issues they’ve been tackling:

MINUTES OF MEETINGS:-
Over the last month, the UKYP subgroup have been working further on their campaign for cultural awareness and recently took part in holding an information stall at the Essex Global Gala Event in Chelmsford on 3rd May 2010. Their recent meetings in April and May involved action planning for this event and working on inviting groups of young people from across Essex to create display boards on 'Stereotyping' which were displayed at this event.

The UKYP are an elected body of young people representing young people aged 11-19 on a national level.
Each year young people from across the country work on national campaigns and within their regions, focus on another separate campaign.
The current national campaigns are for:-
1. ‘The abolishment of tuition fees’
2. ‘Fares Fair’ which is a concession card for under 18’s in full time education for travel and
3. ‘Better political education in Secondary Schools’.
The East of England Regional campaign is a project called ‘CAFÉ’ – Cultural Awareness For Everyone. The sections of this project will involve creating a cultural cookbook, creating cultural awareness packs as well as holding an event focussing on social cohesion to coincide with the Young Essex Assembly Local Democracy week event.
In the meantime, look out for posters being distributed over the coming months to promote ‘CAFÉ’!

The UKYP are looking to work with Essex County Council to input into Equality and Diversity strategies for the county. Work on this is due to start in September.
This will also link in with the CAFE project and the event to be held in local democracy week.
Along with the Bullying subgroup, the Essex UKYP members are hoping to have an equality and Diversity training day next month.
One of our Essex UKYP members has been successfully elected as the national transport representative for UKYP and is currently in the process of collaborating with Essex County Council (ECC) to be involved in local policies and to be able to feedback at a national level.
At the first regional meeting for UKYP, another Essex representative was successfully elected as one of the region’s media reps and will be undergoing training for this at the annual sitting at the end of July and hopefully with ECC's media team. Updates from the sitting will hopefully be coming soon.
